Annual Report of the Delegacy liii Beales as Professor of History of Education and Head of Department During the course of the session he lectured at the University of Birmingham and at Christ Church College Canterbury Professor Perry lectured at the University of Keele and gave the Montefiore Lecture at the Froebel Institute on 'Competition and Education' During the session he completed research project on "Wastage in Colleges of Education' on behalf of the Universities Council for the Education of Teachers with grant from the Rowntree Trust Dr King attended and presented papers at the following conferences Commonwealth Universities Conference Edinburgh 'The prospect for the 16-20 age group' Council of Europe Confer- ence Dublin 'The needs motivation and aspirations of the 16-19 age group' Conference Milan 'In-service education for teachers in England' The Comparative Research Unit Dr King Mrs Moor and Miss Mundy concluded its study of the social and educational implications of increasing enrolments in upper-secondary education in England France West Germany Italy and Sweden three-year project sponsored by the Social Science Research Council The Unit has published an Interim Report and pamphlet Democratisation in the Upper-Secondary School 1971 The Final Report has been presented to the and will be published early in 1974 under the provisional title Education 16 to 20 New Dimensions 0J Post- Compulsory Education in Western Europe The members of the Unit have taken part in several international conferences on the basis of their work Miss Mundy has recently been appointed Senior Lecturer in Education Management at Sheffield Polytechnic Mr Muir gave talks at teachers' conferences in Cambridge Reading Manchester and Preston and demonstration with group of sixth-formers at the Classical Association Weekend Course in London He also attended the Fifth International Colloquium on Classics Teaching at the University of Ghent After several years of preparation and planning by Dr Î’ Dawson and colleagues of the Faculty of Natural Science the first course for the degree of Ed in Science Education was completed this session with students specialising in Chemistry The course sponsored and taught jointly by the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Natural Science will be expanded to take Physics graduates in the session beginning October 1974
