Annual Report of the Delegacy xii 'D Rossetti' at the Rossetti Symposium at the Courtauld Institute She also gave lecture on 'The Aesthetic Movement' at University College London and on 'Virginia Woolf and the Sense of the Past' at the University of London Summer School in English Miss Janet Cowen gave an intercollegiate lecture on Sacred and Profane Love' in Malory's Morte D'Arthur Mr John Porter was elected member of the Council of the Viking Society 1971-73 He gave two intercollegiate lectures at University College on 'Snorri Sturluson and Thirteenth Century Iceland' and attended the Second International Saga Conference at Reykavik in August 1973 Mr Proudfoot gave lecture to the Southampton English Association and one on The Two Noble Kinsmen' for the Globe Theatre Trust Summer School He organised Shakespeare reading by students in the Department Mrs Christine Rees gave paper called 'The Reflected City Imita- tion and Travesty in English Augustan Poetry' at the Classical Institute Dr Rogers served as Secretary of the British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies He resigned from the Department September 30th 1973 on appointment first to senior lectureship in the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick and then chair in English at the University College of North Wales Bangor He read paper on The Augustan Underworld' to the London University Society for Research in English The Department is now responsible for activities associated with the affiliation of the Globe Theatre Trust to King's College It will be concerned in advising on the planning and staffing of the annual Summer School organised by the World Centre for Shakespeare Studies founded in 1971 at Bankside and in collaborating with other activities of our neighbours in the Globe Theatre Trust across the river The 1973 season of lectures presents an international panel of lecturers under the directorship of Professor Brooks of Birkbeck College DEPARTMENT OF FRENCH Number of Students Undergraduate 95 Postgraduate 10 In addition 27 students were spending the year in France as Assistants
