Annual Report of the Delegacy DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH Number of Students Subsidiary 21 Honours 105 Postgraduate 44 Departmental Notes Professor Kane was appointed an ex-officio member of the Lord Northcliffe Lectureship Committee for the Session 1972-73 He was also appointed member of the Chambers Memorial Lectureship Committee for the Sessions 1972-73 1973-74 and 1974-75 Professor Sharrock was elected Chairman of the Executive Committee of the English Association he became member of the Editorial Advisory Panel of the periodical English He gave the annual Warton Lecture of the British Academy in November 1972 his sub- ject being 'The Figure in Landscape Wordsworth's Early Poetry' He also lectured to the sixth form of the Mary Datchelor School and introduced the English Association's Sixth Form Conference at Im- perial College in January 1973 Mr Ε Mottram was appointed to Readership in American Literature He gave lecture in 'The Poet's Life Style' series run by the London Borough of Camden and Ambit magazine and lectured at the Universities of Leeds and Nottingham and at the Polytechnics of Portsmouth and Bristol He gave lecture at the 'Modern American Fiction' course of the and two lectures at the Polytechnic of Central London one for the American Poetry Conference He also lectured at the Hornsey School of Art and organised the Poetry In- formation series at the Poetry Society from September 1972 to April 1973 He lectured at the Institute of United States Studies from Octo- ber 1972 to June 1973 and was External Examiner at the Universities of Manchester Wales Aberystwyth and Essex and at the Didsbury College of Education Manchester University Mr Waldron lectured on 'Current English Usage' to various groups of visiting German and French students for the Educational Exchange Council He organised and contributed to series of inter- collegiate lectures on 'Sacred and Profane Love in Middle English Literature' Mrs Leonee Ormond lectured on 'Lord Leighton' at the Courtauld Institute on 'Lord Leighton and Music' at the Kensington Music Society on 'Rossetti and Costume' to the Costume Society and on
