Annual Report of the Delegacy xxxv FINANCE The total of grants received from the Court of the University amoun- ted to £3 243 137 compared with £2 728 664 in 1971-72 and also separate earmarked grant of £292 659 was received for the purchase of equipment The Computer Board grant which is included now in the grant from the Court amounted to £46 000 Fee income was £228 465 compared with £230 925 last year Government departments various foundations and private firms continued to support research projects and contributed £312 754 The expenses of the academic departments at £2 649 715 showed large increase of £326 125 and reflects the cost of implementing salary revisions in October 1972 together with the ever increasing in- flationary problem and the introduction of from April 1973 Maintenance of premises showed an increase of £68 594 and reflects higher rates of pay authorised during the year and higher prices for cleaning and additional insurance cover affected during the year for all College property Halliday Hall showed deficit of £164 and the total income for the year amounted to £46 260 King's College Hall showed deficit of £113 and the total income for the year amounted to £147 263 and includes the large amount of £40 354 which was received from special lettings and student vacation fees The refectories showed deficit of £12 036 compared with £8 642 the previous year During the year Capital grants totalling £315 526 were made available to the College by the University Grants Committee through the Court of the University STUDENT ACTIVITIES Report from the Student Union The Union Society has accomplished much this past year in several fields new modernised Constitution has been produced and after being approved by the Delegacy is now in operation Several new standing committees of the Union have come into being in such areas as academic affairs and publicity The students who pass down Surrey Street can be seen gazing at the
