Annual Report of the Delegacy xxxiii Libraries of the University of London and of the Ligue des Biblio- theques Europeennes de Recherche which held its second general assembly at Brussels in June He also continued to serve on the Study Group on the Archives of the University of London which submitted its report to the Collegiate Council during the session and he was re- elected Chairman of the Committee of Librarians of Latin American Collections in the University and in that capacity continued in mem- bership of the library committee of the Institute of Latin American Studies During the long vacation the Librarian represented the Stand- ing Conference of National and University Libraries at the 39th session of the general council of the International Federation of Library Associations at Grenoble where he relinquished the secretaryship of its university libraries sub-section after holding office for six years He continued to act as secretary of the training and education sub- committee of the Standing Conference of National and University Libraries and as member of the librarianship board of the Council for National Academic Awards 16 Miss Mary Elliott helped to devise and teach the curriculum option on school libraries in the Faculty of Education and attended symposium on Byzantine literature and art held at the University of Birmingham Miss Julia Sheppard attended the annual conference of the British Records Association Miss Ann Burton attended course at the National Lending Library for Science and Technology on com- puterised methods of information retrieval with particular reference to the MEDLARS service for medical information retrieval and at the end of the long vacation organised demonstration of MEDLARS for members of the Science departments given by an expert from the British Library 17 The quinquennial settlement inevitably leaves number of additional posts required in the Library at both senior and junior levels without immediate prospect of establishment The inevitable result of this situation is that the existing staff is grossly overworked and it is no more than proper to record the warmest appreciation of their unflagging efforts to ensure that the College Library continues to give reasonable service particularly under the pressures inherent in the often exasperating physical conditions which must be endured until some further alleviation of the problems of accommodation can be offered
