Annual Report of the Delegacy xxvii Dr Rogers French has been appointed to the Chair of French at the University of the Witwatersrand Dr Secemski Chemistry has been appointed Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Stetson University Florida Mr Thomas Arts has been appointed First Secretary at the United Kingdom Delegation to the European Economic Community in Brussels Dr White Chemistry has been appointed Lecturer in Bio- chemistry at University College Cardiff Dr Whiting Chemistry has been appointed Reader at the University of Nottingham The Inglis Studentship in English was awarded to Miss Dodd The Intermediate Scholarship in Laws was awarded to Miss Gaer The Rabbeth and Delegacy Scholarships were awarded to Miss Υ Ng Mr Rose Miss Wyatt Mr Sale Mr Bowden and Mr Moss The Sambrooke Scholarship in Medicine was awarded to Mr Campbell The Warnsford Scholarship in Medicine 1st Year was awarded to Miss Beardmore THE LIBRARY Finance The main preoccupation during the session 1972 73 has been with financial matters In common with other universities the amount of the quinquennial grant was not known until well into the academic year while in common with other schools and institutes of the University of London King's College did not know its grant until well into the summer term it was not until the end of June that the extent of the Library grant could be determined The figure was finally fixed at sum representing an increase of £15 000 over the basic annual grant in the previous session but still almost £1 000 less than actual expenditure from the supplemented Library grant in that session In the absence of any reliable indication of the sum which could eventually be made available the Library was asked to work within budget apart from earmarked grants and other special funds corresponding to the basic grant in the last year of the quin- quennium then ended It quickly became clear that this sum would be woefully inadequate to maintain even minimal library provision Standing orders alone apart from their binding would account for
