xx Annual Report of the Delegacy lowed by Ph at the age of 21 and Sc at the age of 30 Turning to medicine he obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Physi- cians in 1943 and was appointed Professor of Physiology at the London Hospital Medical College in 1948 when only 38 years old In 1959 he came to the Halliburton Chair at King's and in 1970 received the honour of being elected Few members of the College can have been better known and better liked than John D'Silva and few can have served it with greater dedication His appointment as Assistant Principal in 1968 gave uni- versal satisfaction it brought him into contact with wider section of the College than previously and in so doing enabled more to bene- fit from his wisdom his kindliness and his sense of humour At times when relationships between the senior and junior members of acade- mic communities have not been universally remarkable for cordiality and trust it is an outstanding tribute to his quality as man that the Students' Union on hearing of Professor D'Silva's impending retire- ment resolved unanimously to request his permission to name the new College Bar which he had done much to establish 'The D'Silva Arms' In addition to serving on the Delegacy on almost all of its Commit- tees and as chairman of several of them John D'Silva's experience in diocesan affairs at St Albans made his work on the Council side of the College of great value Fellow of the College since 1957 he was elected member of Corporation by the Council in 1964 and has since been member of its Finance Committee He will be greatly missed The sense of loss at his leaving is measure of the affection in which he has been held He will be long remem- bered for his probity for his kindness for his fairness for his courage and for his laugh To him and to Mrs D'Silva whose gaiety and graciousness have enlivened innumerable College functions the Dele- gacy on behalf of the whole College would express quite simply their gratitude and their affection Mr Edwards sc Mr Edwards' name first appeared as an Assistant Lecturer in Mathematics in the College Calendar for 1927 and has appeared without break in each of the 45 succeeding issues Mr Edwards' services to the College have been as varied as they have been valued Promoted Lecturer and then Senior Lecturer in his sub- ject he has been member of the Professional Board and of the
