Annual Report of the Council ν 'Throughout the period the Chairman has shown practical awareness of contemporary trends and readiness to advise Council from background of wide experience and involvement He guided Council with wisdom and sympathy during the discussions which led to the transfer of the Fourth Year College from Warminster to Canterbury he was the advocate of the College when the future of the fourth year itself was called into question but above all he has been personally responsible in large part for securing the increased grants from the monies made available to Diocesan Bishops in the Metropolitan area from the City Parochial Foundation Without these increased grants the financial situation of the Council would have been well-nigh intolerable 'For his many services to the College for his friendliness and guidance and accessibility the Council and Theological Committee would place on record their gratitude and deep appreciation At the same meeting the Council expressed its appreciation of the services of Professor D'Silva 'On 30th September 1973 Professor D'Silva relinquishes his appointments as Assistant Principal and as Halliburton Professor of Physiology 'Happily he will not cease to be member of the Council but this meeting affords the opportunity for the Council to place on record its very real appreciation of the services which Professor D'Silva as Assistant Principal has rendered to Council over the past five years 'In every way and on every Committee in his multifarious relationships with students and staff John D'Silva has ever been mindful of the underlying purposes for which King's College was founded and his influence has been quietly and consistently devoted to the furtherance of those aims from position of responsibility and trust Of this members of Council are well aware and as Professor D'Silva will not again attend meeting whilst Assistant Principal they wish now to record their gratitude to colleague The retirement of the Reverend Professor Mascall was marked by the following expression of the Council's indebtedness 'When Dr Mascall came to King's in 1962 the Council of the College and the University of London realised that they had
