THE THEOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT of KING'S COLLEGE LONDON UNIVERSITY OF LONDON ANNUAL REPORT OF THE COUNCIL FOR THE SESSION 1972-73 presented to the COURT of the COLLEGE COUNCIL AND CORPORATION The Council has met three times in joint session with the Theological Committee The Council learned with regret and deep sense of loss the news of the death of three Fellows of King's College on July 6th 1972 of the Reverend Professor Edwin Oliver James who had been Professor of the Philosophy of Religion in the University of London from 1945 to 1955 on January 21st 1973 of the Reverend Dr Robert Victor Sellers who had been Professor of Biblical and Historical Theology in the College from 1948 to 1954 and on May 4th 1973 of Mrs Dorothy Rhodes who as Miss Dorothy Brittain had been Tutor to Women Students from 1932 to 1959 Members of Council had also learned of the death on September 15th 1972 of the Most Reverend Lord Fisher of Lambeth who as Bishop of London from 1939 to 1945 had been Deputy Chairman of the Council The Council heard with pleasure of the appointment as Bishop of Carlisle of the Right Reverend David Halsey who had been student in the Faculty of Arts from 1935 to 1940 of the appointment of Dr Chapman former student of the College in the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Theology as Dean of Exeter of the appointment as Archdeacon of Maidstone of the Venerable Ν Nye of the appoint- ment as Provost of Blackburn of Canon Lawrence Jackson of the appointment of Canon Jack Churchill as Dean of Carlisle of the con- ferment of the Honorary degree of Doctor of Laws by the University
