lxxxiv Annual Report of the Delegacy Professor Domb has been Royal Society Visiting Professor at the Hebrew University Israel since January where he is editing book on 'Phase Transitions in Critical Phenomena' Professor Glass of Howard University and Dr Ruth Ditzian of University of Toronto have been visiting scientists attached to the theoretical group during the session Dr Martin has been responsible for teaching computing throughout the college and has served on the Computing Science Advisory Panel Drs Lightowlers Collins and Davies continue their studies on diamond silicon gallium phosphide and arsenide Equip- ment has been set up for the measurement of luminescent lifetimes down to Χ io-9 sec by pulsed electron beam techniques Following up his work at Bell Laboratories Dr Lightowlers has been carrying out charged particle activation measurements on oxygen in GaP and GaAs using the Harwell accelerators Dr Sidorov Moscow and Dr Penchina Mass have been visiting scientists with the group for various periods The nuclear group under Dr Griffiths has conducted work on neutron scattering and polarisation measurements using the Harwell synchrocyclotron They have also used the Harwell variable energy cyclotron for studies on He3 and He4 scattering Dr Edwards has been engaged on complex reaction studies using the Oxford Tan- dem and Harwell VEC accelerators In the radiophysics group Dr Jones and Dr Barr have initiated study of the wave impedance of low frequency terrestrial radio noise with the object of determining ionospheric variations produced by varying solar activity Investigations of Schumann resonances continue and theoretical studies of the anomolous propagation of low frequency waves have been made Mr Chomet who for many years has performed an invaluable service in translation and editing of Russian scientific texts has published his fiftieth book in this category during the session He is Editor of the Soviet Journal of Instrumentation and Control Associate Editor of Foundation-the Review of Science Fiction and was Secretary of the International Conference on Computer Aided Typesetting Dr Stokes has published an important undergraduate textbook on nuclear and atomic physics Professor Price lectured at the Summer School on Photoelectron Spectroscopy at Swansea and at the University of Cambridge and Sussex at Queen Elizabeth College and in Washington
