Annual Report of the Delegacy xlv quest for the Grail' to the intercollegiate Seminar on Wolfram von Eschenbach Mr Beckley taught at London School of Economics for the whole session hour per week on modern German Literature Professor Wisbey MrJ Flood Mr Glass and Mr Harrison attended the Thirty-Fifth Meeting of the Conference of University Teachers of German in Great Britain and Ireland of which Mr Flood is Hon Secretary at the University of Aberdeen from September 18th to 21st 1972 Mr Glass and Mr Jones became Recognized Teachers of the University of London By the beginning of the session the move to the Ground Floor of the new Strand Building had been completed bringing the Department greatly improved facilities including new lecture rooms study rooms and Common Room The Department also has access to the new Language Laboratory and Recording Room any sophisticated equip- ment required for teaching purposes is now supplied and serviced by central Audio-Visual Unit The most significant development in the Department's work during the session was the inauguration of the new Combined Studies Course in German and Russian taught jointly with the School of Slavonic and East European Studies During the year eight students registered at the School for the preliminary year required of those with no previous knowledge of Russian they will embark on the further three years of the full course for Combined Honours in October 1972 Meanwhile they have attended the Department for 'holding' instruction in German and have played an active part in its cultural and social life including the German play The King's College German Society gave four performances of Woyzeck by Georg Buchner Departmental Notes Professor Elliott delivered the Raleigh Lecture on History at the British Academy on 'The Discovery of America and the Discovery of DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY Number of Students Subsidiary Honours Postgraduate 94 22
