xliv Annual Report of the Delegacy Departmental Notes Professor Wisbey took up the Chair of German and assumed Headship of the Department at the beginning of the session Prior to this he had been Lecturer in German and Director of the Literary and Linguistic Computing Centre in the University of Cambridge and Fellow Director of Studies in Modern Languages Librarian and Acting Bursar of Downing College In January he was reappointed Hon Treasurer of the Modern Hum- anities Research Association with financial responsibility for the Asso- ciation's publications including the Modern Language Review the Yearbook of English Studies the Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature the Year's Work in Modern Language Studies and two scholarly series In the autumn the Third Anglo-German Colloquium of which he was joint organiser took place in Cambridge Its theme was 'Die friihmittelhochdeutsche Literatur' The proceedings including paper by Professor Wisbey are in the press Professor Wisbey arranged series of three Public Lectures on computing applications in the Humanities during the summer term the first of which he delivered himself on 'The Computer and Literary Studies' In the same term he addressed computer seminar for musi- cologists arranged by Dr Ian Bent During the year he gave Public Lecture at the University of London Institute of Germanic Studies on 'Marvels of the East in the Wiener Genesis and in Wolframs Parzival' he also lectured at the Universities of Bonn and Bristol acted as External Examiner for German at the University of Manchester and served in Bonn on the interviewing panel of the German Academic Exchange Service which selects German Lectors for appointment at British Universities Mr Flood was elected member of the Council of the Viking Society for Northern Research He was appointed member of the Committee of Management of the University of London Institute of Germanic Studies Mr Glass gave Public Lecture entitled 'Georg Biichner Woyzek-a revolutionary drama Mr Harrison was awarded the Ph for his thesis entitled Holderlin's Creative Assimilation of Greek Literature and Ideas registered at Bedford College Mr Μ Jones delivered paper on 'Parzival's fighting and the
