Annual Report of the Delegacy xxxv 17 Twenty-eight scholars were admitted to read papers in the Centre to five of whom total of 271 pages of photocopies had been supplied and three submissions of manuscripts in which use was made of papers in the Centre wer approved for publication 18 The Principal received grant of Ā£7 600 spread over three years from the Social Science Research Council to enable the cata- loguing of the Liddell Hart library and archives to be undertaken this work began in March 1972 Staffing 19 The problems caused by the need to administer nine separately controlled reading rooms in the Strand were recognised by the Finance Committee which authorised the establishment of five additional junior posts one of them specifically to enable the Library to meet the increasing demands for photocopying in the science libraries 20 The Librarian continued to represent the College Library at the half-yearly meetings of SCONUL and represented that body at the 38 th session of the General Council of the International Federation of Library Associations at Budapest in August-September 1972 He also represented the College Library at the inaugural general assembly of LIBER in Luxembourg in June Within the University of London he was appointed member of the working group set up by the Interim Joint Standing Committee of the Academic and Collegiate Councils to consider the views expressed in the Report of the Committee on Library Resources of which he had been member and to advise on the financial implications of the Report and identify priorities for action and he was elected chairman from August 1972 of the Committee of Librarians of Latin American Collections in the University of London in which capacity he was also appointed to membership of the newly formed library committee of the Institute of Latin American Studies Within the College he was appointed member of the working party to consider the feasibility of the amalgamation of the School of Slavonic and East European Studies with King's College following the recommendations of the Noble Report on the future of the School 21 During her first year as Archivist in the Centre for Military Archives Miss Julia Sheppard attended the annual conferences of the British Records Association in December and of the Society of Archiv- ists in April seminar on the preservation and maintenance of manu- scripts organised by SCONUL in July and conference on archive
