THE THEOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT of KING'S COLLEGE LONDON UNIVERSITY OF LONDON ANNUAL REPORT OF THE COUNCIL FOR THE SESSION 1971-72 presented to the COURT of the COLLEGE council and corporation The Council has met three times in joint session with the Theological Committee The Council shared with the whole College the honour and pleasure of the visit of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh on June 27th 1972 when Her Majesty declared open the new Strand Building at ceremony in the New Theatre The Council learned with regret and real sense of loss news of the death of four Fellows of King's College on July 16th 1971 of the Right Reverend Bertram Simpson formerly Bishop of Southwark and member of Council for twenty-nine years on November 30th 1971 of the Reverend Emeritus Professor Herbert Maurice Relton who had been professor of Dogmatic Theology from 1924 to 1948 on January 7th 1972 of Emeritus Professor Francis Wormald litt formerly professor of Palaeography from 1950 to 1960 and subsequently Director of the Institute of Historical Research he was member of Council for seventeen years on May 17th 1972 of Mr Sydney Marsh Treasurer of King's College from 1951 to 1962 The Council heard with pleasure of the conferment of the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Divinity by the University of Birmingham on the Reverend Nineham Warden of Keble College Oxford of the appointment as Provost of Portsmouth Cathedral of the Venerable Michael Nott Archdeacon of Canterbury and an old student of the
