154 Faculties and Courses of Study Postgraduate Courses MUS The course of study for this degree in the branches of Musicology Musical Analysis Composition and Folk Music will extend over at least one academic year and candidates will normally be expected to hold first-class or second-class Mus degree of this University or an equivalent qualification from another University The course of instruction will normally be open only to Internal students The examination for the degree will be held once year and will comprise one written paper course assessment Special Study and viva voce examination PHIL AND PH Students wishing to register as Internal candidates in the Faculty of Music for the Phil or Ph degree are at present required to have obtained the Mus degree or the Mus degree of the University of London or an equivalent degree of another University The minimum period of study is two years Candidates are recommended to refer to the University Regulations for Postgraduate Students proceeding to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and to consult the Dean of the Faculty of Music before making an application CERTIFICATE COURSE The College awards Certificate in Advanced Musical Studies to graduate students who have satisfactorily pursued one year's course of study in the Faculty but who are debarred from registering themselves as Internal candidates for the degrees of Mus Phil or Ph The course of study will be worked out individually for each candidate in accordance with his or her attainments and needs The Certificate will be endorsed with details of the course
