Faculties and Courses of Study 117 The Faculty provides systematic courses of study in Arts suitable for students preparing for the internal degrees and diplomas of the Univer- sity of London At the present time only full-time undergraduate students are normally admitted to the courses leading to the degree and because of pressure of numbers the admission of occasional or part-time students is allowed only in very exceptional circumstances The Faculty does not normally consider applications more than one year ahead except when applicants intend to spend year abroad immediately before entry Places are not usually offered without interview and applicants who intend to go overseas before entry are strongly advised to inform the College of the fact by writing as soon as possible to the Sub-Dean of Arts in the case of men or the Tutor to Women Students in the case of women Wherever possible such applicants will be interviewed before they leave the United Kingdom Further information and full details of the courses given below may be found in the prospectuses issued by individual departments Undergraduate Courses ADMISSION OF STUDENTS Details of the procedure to be followed by students seeking admission to undergraduate courses are given on page 81 Applicants are admitted by the Sub-Dean of the Faculty or in the case of women applicants by the Tutor to Women Students on behalf of the Dean of the Faculty and as advised by Heads of Departments or their representatives DEGREE COURSES DEGREE This may be taken in any one of the following branches Classics English Philosophy Classics and Ancient History French Portuguese and Classics and Classical Geography Brazilian Studies Archaeology German Religious Studies Latin and Classical History Spanish Archaeology Modern Greek Latin with Greek Modern Iberian and Latin American Greek with Latin Regional Studies Mathematics see page 120
