General Information 107 University of London Careers Advisory Service Central Office 49 Gordon Square WC1H 0PQ Telephone 01-387 8221 Director Ε Η Dibden sc The Service which is administered by the Careers Advisory Board is the official agency set up by the Senate to provide careers advisory vocational guidance and appointments services for the benefit of men and women students and graduates of the University Miss Η Hudson and MrJ McCormack represent King's College on the Board The careers advisers on the staff of the Service are always in touch with wide range of employers in all technical and non-technical fields and can give active help to those interested in joining for example the Civil Service HM Services research organisations industry commerce teaching or other professions Local Government social services the Hospital Service and the Police Service The Central Office is open all the year round and an appointment with careers adviser can be made at any time In addition under the Field Service Scheme advisers visit King's College on four days week in term time to see and advise students Further details may be obtained from the Careers Informa- tion Room 8E on the third floor of the Chesham Building where selection of literature on careers is available The University Library see page 176 University of London Union The Union provides for social cultural and athletic activities of University of London students at university level supplementing the facilities provided in the college union societies It fields representative teams in various branches of sport and awards the University of London 'Purple' the Union encourages keen and friendly rivalry between the colleges of the University by arranging an intercollegiate debating competition one-act play festival and the various cup competitions leagues and tournaments in all branches of sport The University Union building in Malet Street is open to members of the Union It contains offices refectory open for luncheon tea and supper an assembly hall and stage swimming pool gymnasium badminton and squash courts lounges and bar library and rooms for television music billiards and table tennis Accommodation Office see under section on Residence page 101
