lxxx Annual Report of the Delegacy Departmental Notes Professor Arthur gave invited papers at the seminar on 'Human ecology and the population problem' the international symposium of wildlife diseases at Sussex University the eugenics symposium on 'Pollution and population' and the Council for Environ- mental Education conference at Leicester University He organised the second sixth-form symposium on 'The natural history of parasites' on behalf of the Zoological Society of London chairing the meeting and giving paper on the natural history of feeding by ectoparasites He gave an invited summing-up paper on the effects of oil on littoral fauna and flora at meeting organised by the Institute of Petroleum lectured on various aspects of pollution and environmental problems to the Guild of Graduates of the University of Wales at Swansea to the City Polytechnic during their Arts Week and to several schools in the London area He was appointed member of the Special Advisory Group III of the Biological Sciences Committee of the Science Research Council the Special Advisory Committee on Conservation of the University of London the Board of Studies in Agriculture and Horticulture of the University of London the Council of the Institute of Environmental Studies and the Publications Committee of the Institute of Environmental Sciences He also acted as external examiner in Zoology to the Universities of Lagos and Ahmadu Bello in Nigeria and the University of Leeds Dr Cox read paper at the Spring meeting of the British Society for Parasitology at Bangor gave two invited papers on inter- actions between blood parasites at the first European congress of parasitology at Rennes and read paper on The survival of parasites in immune hosts' at the second sixth-form symposium at the Zoological Society of London Dr Cox gave paper at the eighteenth symposium on vertebrate palaeontology and comparative anatomy in Cambridge and lectured to the Geological Society of Oxford University and the Biological Societies of Bedford College and West Ham Polytechnic Dr Pye attended an international symposium at Sir John Cass College on 'Information transmission in the insect body and between insects' He gave lectures to the Zoological Societies of University College and Westfield College and contributed to the Biol course at Sir John Cass College He was elected to membership of the Brain Research Association
