liv Annual Report of the Delegacy Dr King read paper at the first World Congress of Comparative Education Societies in Ottawa and gave the opening address at the annual conference of the German Comparative Education Society He also lectured at Christ Church College Canterbury and at the Froebel Education Institute Mrs Dorothy Dallas lectured at eight institutions on the applica- tion of moral education to sex education She served as Script Adviser for the Health Education series 'Lifeline' as assessor for the Ed in Science Education at Chelsea College and as Super- visory editor for Nuffield Secondary Science loopfilms Dr Β Dawson lectured in the Nuffield Α-level Physical Science Course at the North London Teachers Centre and at several specialist conferences in Leeds and London He served as external examiner to the Universities of Exeter and Hull Mr Poole was elected member of the Institute of Physics and lectured during the session at Chelsea College the Thames Physics Centre and the North London Science Centre FACULTY OF ENGINEERING Number of Students Sc Eng Part 80 Part Π 66 Part III 53 Postgraduate 61 Faculty Notes Department of Civil Engineering Professor Ross retired at the end of the session as Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering He joined the College in 1935 and became Head of Department in 1946 at time of revival after the war years He initiated the activity of the department in the field of concrete structures and developed comprehensive programme of research into the mechanical and structural properties of concrete This work attracted succession of able research students and series of fundamental papers in the subject have been published The departure of Professor Ross will be keenly felt for he has been constant source of help and encourage- ment to staff and students see also Retirements xx
