Annual Report of the Delegacy liii Faculty Notes The course of lectures inaugurated in session 1969-70 by invited experts for Ed students in the Colleges of Education in the London studying History of Education as an option was extended this session to sixteen lecture-plus-seminar periods in the Michaelmas and Lent terms This year the lectures were recorded on delivery in order subsequently to be available on loan to colleges The annual dramatic production of the Education Society given in the Great Hall for three performances in February was Live Like Pigs by John Arden On October 21st public lecture on the centenary of the Gladstone Education Act of 1870 'To cover the nation with good schools' was given by Professor Dent formerly Editor of The Times Educational Supplement with Professor Beales in the chair The Comparative Research Unit directed by Dr King published memorandum commissioned by UNESCO for meeting of Ministers of Education on 'The Democratisation of Secondary Education' June 1971 The Unit also submitted memorandum on the implications for teacher education of rapidly increasing full-time enrolments to the age of 18 to the James Committee enquiring into the training of teachers The work of the Mobile Recording Unit directed by MrJ Muir and Mr Harris continued to expand The appointment of Mr Fulat to assist the Manager is to continue for 1971-72 Early in the year at St Mary's College Strawberry Hill the Faculty held second three-day seminar in university teaching techniques for King's College lecturers The was used for televising short lectures by those taking part which were then played back for discussion and appraisal Professor Beales lectured at Christ Church College Canterbury at the North East London Polytechnic and at Hampton Grammar School He served as external examiner for the Universities of Belfast Cam- bridge Liverpool and Newcastle-on-Tyne and for Jordanhill College Professor Hirst gave the conference address at the annual meeting of the Headmasters' Association and lectured at the University of Oxford Department of Education the Institutes of Education of Cambridge and Leeds Universities and at Weymouth College of Education He also gave two broadcasts He served as Chairman of the University of London Faculty of Education Working Party on Graduate Initial Teacher Training and as member of the Education Sub-Committee
