1 Annual Report of the Delegacy The department received its second Defence Fellow during the year Lt Commander Dibble whose research concerned naval integration in Europe Professor Martin lectured to the Royal College of Defence Studies and conducted series of seminars there He also lectured to the combined Staff Colleges at Camberley to the Army Staff College the Joint Services Staff College to the Stanford Research Institute He delivered papers at conference concerned with the legal and political aspects of the submarine sponsored jointly by the Faculty of Laws at King's College and the War Studies department and to conference on the Indian Ocean in Washington He also wrote the 'Strategic Appraisal' the current strategic study being conducted for the Ameri- can-British-Canadian-Australian planning group by the Ministry of Defence During the year Dr Mendl served as co-chairman of Japan Study Group at Chatham House and then began period of leave in Japan to pursue research on Japanese external policy with special reference to Sino-Japanese relations He lectured at the Royal Naval College and the Royal Military College of Science and conducted seminars at the Royal College of Defence Studies Mr Bond lectured at the University of East Anglia and to the School of Army Education He continued as Moderator in History at the Royal Naval College Dartmouth During the year the Board of War Studies approved the new syllabus for the Μ Α the primary feature of which is to permit the substitution of an extended essay for an examination in the Special Subject FACULTIES OF ARTS AND SCIENCE department of geography Number of Students Honours Registered at 41 Registered at ο Sc Single Honours Registered at 37 Registered at 65 Sc Joint Honours Registered at 11 Sc Economics Registered at 36
