Studentships Scholarships Exhibitions Bursaries and Prizes 221 university should not make nomination if they consider that candidate of sufficient merit is not available if On receipt of each university nomination the cheque will be forwarded directly to the prize winner The certificate will be presented if possible on suitable occasion arranged between the Local Centre of the Institution concerned and the university INSTITUTION OF CIVIL ENGINEERS PRIZE This prize was established in 1970 by the Institution of Civil Engineers The award will be made biennially on the recommendation of the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and will consist of Certificate of Merit and the sum of £10 The prize will be awarded to the undergraduate in the second or final year of the course who shall have most distinguished himself not only in examinations but also in course work and design INSTITUTION OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS PRIZE The Institution of Mechanical Engineers prize will be awarded each academic year normally on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners responsible for Mechanical Engineering courses The Prize will take the form of cheque for £10 and certificate to be presented by the appropriate Branch of the Institution at one of its meetings The Prize is awarded to the graduating student in the final year of mechanical engineering first degree course who completes an outstanding research development or design project ii If an award is not appropriate under above the prize is to be awarded for the best design work completed in the penultimate year of mechani- cal engineering first degree course iii If an award cannot be made under or ii above then the prize is to be awarded to the most distinguished student in Mechanical Engineering particular weight being given to outstanding performance in project or design work In any year in which there is any doubt as to whether any student has achieved performance of sufficient merit the Board of Examiners may withhold its recommendation No application by students is necessary
