Faculties and Courses oj Study 155 The Faculty is able each year to award number of grants from the Department of Education and Science for men and women tenable for the one year of professional training The holders are known as Recognized Students These students may be exempt from the pay- ment of tuition fees and may receive in addition maintenance grant The value is subject to deduction of 'students' contribution' cal- culated upon the net family income after making certain allowances at present minimum grant of £50 year is payable The rates of grant for the coming session are as follows Resident students College Hall or Lodgings £480 year Day Students £355 year Married women students living in their husband's home £275 year De- pendant's grants are available for certain 'mature students' Applications for entry to the course can be made by graduates or by students in the last year of their degree course on special form issued by the Graduate Teacher Training Registry obtainable in the Faculty of Education Office This should be submitted as early as possible in the Michaelmas term and not later than 1st December for women and 31st December for men before the autumn in which the course is to be begun In special circumstances applications received later than this could be considered Selected candidates will be interviewed during the session which precedes the beginning of the course The register of acceptances for the session is normally complete by the beginning of March ADVANCED STUDY OF EDUCATION Courses in preparation for the Diploma in Education and the Ed Phil and Ph degrees in Education are generally run in co-operation with the University of London Institute of Education Teaching for the Ed in Science Education is entirely College- based as are tuition and supervision for most students registered for other higher degrees at King's College The course of study for the Diploma in Education lasts for not less than one year for full-time students or at least two years for part-time students All candidates will be examined in two of the following subjects Philosophy of Education Comparative Education History of Education Educational Psychology Educational Sociology Educational Organization and Administration Theory and Practice of Education
