Annual Report of the Delegacy lxxi Dr Bradbeer presented papers at meeting of the Society for Experimental Biology in Birmingham and was chairman of one session Dr Hall contributed paper at the fourth international con- ference on magnetic resonance in biological systems at Oxford gave research seminars at Manchester and Paris and was Visiting Professor at the Cell Physiology course at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science Lisbon in August-September 1970 Dr Palmer presented papers at meeting of the Society for Experimental Biology in Dublin Dr Evans read papers at meetings of the Society of General Microbiology at Norwich and London and at the Photobiology meet- ing in the department Dr Moore lectured to the Cirencester Archaeological and His- torical Society and gave paper at the Aberystwyth Symposium on Agricultural Meteorology In September he led Nature Conservancy financed expedition from the department to study an unexplored mire in Radnorshire mid-Wales The eighth international congress of Biochemistry held in Switzer- land was attended by Professor Whatley Dr Palmer and Dr Evans Support from the Science Research Council enabled the department to purchase Varian EP-4 ESR spectrometer for ferredoxin studies This has now been commissioned and operates well department of chemistry Number of Students Sc Main Subject 67 Sc Ancillary Subject 104 Education 33 Postgraduate 34 Departmental Notes considerable and welcome improvement was shown in the number and quality of the admissions in 1969 and the extent of specialisation permitted in the third undergraduate year was slightly extended to meet the special needs of certain students series of lectures on aspects
