xii Annual Report of the Delegacy Professor Maudsley visited Nigeria in June as External Examiner of the Universities of Lagos Ife and Ahmadu Bello He lectured at the Annual Meeting of the Magistrates' Association Professor Colin was appointed External Examiner to the De- partment of Linguistics and Regional Studies of the University of Surrey He lectured at the University of Frankfurt-am-Main on the English law of contract in comparison with German law and at the University of Manchester on outlines of German civil law Sir Francis Vallat was appointed Director of Research for the 1970 English-speaking Section of The Hague Academy Centre for Study and Research The subject for study was 'The Interpretation of Treaties in the light of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties 1969' and seminars were held at The Hague in August and September Sir Francis prepared an outline for comprehensive study of United Nations practices and procedures together with notes for guidance of research for study to be undertaken by the Royal Institute for International Affairs The outline has been accepted by Chatham House Dr Mellows read paper at course on Taxation of Trusts and Estates which was organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants at Cambridge in October 1969 He was member of the directing staff In April he conducted course on Practical Conveyancing for the City of Westminster Law Society and in May he read two papers at course on Modern Tax Planning for Solicitors organised by the Mid-Essex Technical College Chelmsford Mr Hughes was Chairman of the Board of Examiners for the External LL degree He was also Chairman of the College Com- mittee on Procedure for Academic Shortcomings Dr Boyle contributed to course of seminars for Swedish lawyers in London in June 1970 Mr Freeman was visiting lecturer on Aspects of Criminology to the Probation and After-Care Training Centre of the Home Office where he gave course of fifteen lectures He participated in study tour of penal institutions in Norway organised by the Institute for the Study and Treatment of Delinquency and attended the fourth national conference on research and teaching in criminology at Cambridge Mr Chesterman was the Guest Speaker for the Cultural Programme of CEIFDE Ski Championship of European Law Facul- ties held at St Moritz in January 1970
