Ivi Annual Report of the Delegacy of the profession We are very grateful to these distinguished visitors for the time and effort so willingly given Department of Mechanical Engineering Efforts were continued to improve contacts with industry as regards both teaching and research Arrangements were completed for an industrial design engineer to take part in the teaching of mechanical engineering design to under- graduates and substantial contributions were made in postgraduate courses by practising engineers with qualifications in particular fields Co-operation with Bath University of Technology was improved in the area of internal combustion engineering and joint advisory committee consisting of academics from King's and Bath and of industrialists from the engine industry was set up In order to bring the economic aspects of mechanical engineering to the attention of students new series of lectures on the economics of the internal combustion engine was given by the visiting Professor Professor Stuart Mitchell of the Technische Hogeschool Delft Professor Kastner continued as an active member of the Institu- tion of Mechanical Engineers Academics and Industrialists Working Party in which number of valuable discussions on the problems of Industry University co-operation have taken place He also continued his membership of number of committees of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and of the Council of Engineering Institutions and is Chairman of three such committees At the EUSEC FEANI conference in Oslo he delivered Plenary Session lecture concerned with the place of research design and production in University educa- tion Professor Η Rose attended conferences in Sandefjord Milan and Trondheim and presented papers on subjects in the general field of powder technology at all three centres He and Mr Prosser were present at conference arranged by the Royal Society on the use of Computers in Design Dr Williams was member of the organising committee and session chairman for symposium on Diesel Engine Combustion sponsored by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Dr Tindal also attended this symposium Mr Gosney was member of the organising committee for the London meetings of the International Institute of Refrigeration for 1970 and attended the Danfoss symposium at Nordborg Denmark Dr Smith took part in conference on corrosion problems at the Institution of Chemical Engineers and Dr English attended symposium at The Hague on Hazards in the Process Industry
