Annual Report of the Delegacy xii Professor Winnington-Ingram lectured at Glasgow University on 'Greek stage conventions' to the London Branch of the Classical Association on 'Music in ancient Greek life' and to the London Classi- cal Society on 'Eteocles in the Septem' Mr Courtney was appointed Secretary of the Board of Studies in Classics He read paper to the Queen Mary College Classical Society and gave intercollegiate lectures on 'Elementary principles of textual criticism' Dr Averil Cameron read paper at the annual symposium at the Dumbarton Oaks Center for Byzantine Studies Washington on 'Knowledge of Iranian affairs at Byzantium Agathias' and replied to paper on Procopius at the Meeting of Ancient Historians at Buffalo New York She lectured to the London Classical Society on 'Myth and Meaning in Petronius some modern comparisons' the Leicester and Nottingham Universities Joint Seminar on 'Agathias classical historian in changing world' addressed graduate seminar in Oxford on the later Roman Empire and gave series of eight intercollegiate lectures on Ancient Historiography Mrs Griffiths read paper on 'Myricae' to the Virgil Society and one entitled 'The Moretum' to the seminar on Minor Latin Poetry at the Institute of Classical Studies The King's College Classical Society gave four well-attended per- formances in Greek of the Peace of Aristophanes DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH Subsidiary Honours Postgraduate Number of Students 17 91 55 Departmental Notes Professor Kane became Chairman of the Board of Studies in English for 1970 On January 17th he lectured to the Beaconsfield Historical Society on medieval cookery During week in April he was guest of the University of Helsinki where he lectured and conducted seminar During July and the first part of August he conducted senior seminar course at Harvard University for the Mediaeval Academy of America on palaeography and textual criticism He acted as External Examiner to the Universities of Exeter Liverpool and the West Indies
