Annual Report of the Delegacy xxxix in one session before taking over the responsibilities of office in the next 1969-70 was probably the last year in which President was in office and at the same time taking his final examinations The increased commitment of the President to the affairs of the Union showed itself in variety of ways The Student Health Service was re-built and expanded in the Chesham It is now self-contained unit comprising rest-room reception area doctor's surgery nurse's room with adjoining examination room and room for the visiting psychiatrist To complement this service it was felt that there was need for an Advisor to Students possibly particularly to men students since the women may obtain the advice of the Tutor to Women Students The College authorities were able to find accommodation and salary for the first Adviser to Students Mr Edwards who was about to retire as Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Natural Science He was appointed in October 1969 for year in the first instance King's College led the way in the field of University disciplinary procedures by establishing new Code of Discipline and Disciplinary Procedure Other institutions have now adopted similar schemes in which staff and students are present in equal numbers on disciplinary panels to hear offences against the community It is with great regret that the Union records the retirement after 22 years' service of the head groundsman and steward at the Mitcham sports ground Mr and Mrs Fred Pausey had won the affection and admiration of many generations of King's students and as the result of an appeal it was possible to assist in the purchase of house at Bexhill-on-Sea where it is hoped they will spend very happy retire- ment The Union Society were fortunate to be able to appoint in their place Mr and Mrs Townson Social and sporting events continued with great popularity Com- memoration Week once again proved extremely successful The high- light was the delivery by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh of the 49th Commemoration Oration The Rugby Club though unsuccessful in the Gutteridge Cup had an enjoyable and successful season The Soccer Club which managed to field more teams than in previous years also had an enjoyable year The Netball Club came to the fore during the season winning the University of London championship Although few cups were won by King's teams the Mitcham ground was used with enthusiasm by many clubs and teams
