Annual Report of the Delegacy xxxv the library of Professor Graham on his retirement this acquisition is welcome both because of its personal associations and because it represents valuable augmentation of the resources of the Library in subject field for which King's has special responsibility within the University The Library is indebted to 375 donors listed in Appendix IV for the gift of 776 volumes and 138 pamphlets including 167 volumes and 126 parts of periodicals The most interesting items were two translations of Martin Luther's commentaries on the books of the Bible kindly presented by Professor Style on his retirement Henry Bull's translation of commentarie upon the fifteene Psalmes 161s and an anonymous translation of commentarie upon the Epistle of Paul to the Galatians 1616 Other notable gifts included 77 volumes of decisions of courts in the Federal Republic of Germany from 1951 to date from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft 256 volumes and 759 pamphlets from the publishers of Nature and 170 theological works from the former Women's Theological Library given by the Dean and the Theological Department of the College The new system of graduated 5p fines has resulted in more prompt return of books to the Library The number of readers taking advantage of an experimental extension of evening opening hours during the Christmas and Easter vacations did not suggest substantial demand The experiment will continue however until the Library occupies the first half of its new premises since the concentration of subject libraries in two areas and the enhanced Library accommodation may then stimulate the use of the Library in vacation The Library Committee was again concerned at the number of parts of periodicals missing without signature and the number of volumes mutilated by the ripping out of particular parts Both these nuisances have now reached serious proportions The names of 150 persons newly admitted as outside readers were reported to the Library Committee during the year 544 volumes were borrowed on inter-library loan from various libraries in the United Kingdom or abroad only 121 requests or 4-5 per cent remaining unsatisfied The College Library was called upon to lend 517 volumes The Hon David Smith was elected chairman of the Trustees of the Centre for Military Archives and Mr Michael Howard rejoined the Trustees as co-opted member Papers were given to the Centre by Major General Η Davidson and others belonging to Colonel
