Annual Report of the Delegacy xxvii Mr Crow who was on the staff of the English department from 1945 until his retirement as Reader in 1967 memorial service was held in the College Chapel on November 25th 1969 Professor Davidson postgraduate student in the Physics department 1927-29 He retired only recently from the Chair of Theoretical Physics at the University College of Sawnsea fellows The following were appointed Fellows of the College Professor Champion Professor of Experimental Physics since 1959 see Retirements xx Professor Champion's first appointment to the staff was in 1934 Professor Findlay Professor of Philosophy 1951-66 Sir Reginald Goff former student now Judge of the High Court of Justice Chancery Division The Rt Hon Sir Elwyn Jones former member of staff Attorney General in the previous Government Professor Kirkaldy former student now Professor of Geology at Queen Mary College Professor Price Wheatstone Professor of Physics since 1962 and member of staff of the Physics department since 1948 Professor Η Scullard Professor of Ancient History since 1959 see Retirements xxiii He was appointed to Readership in Ancient History in 1935 The Hon David Smith member of the Delegacy since 1965 and Chairman since January 1st 1970 distinctions and appointments gained by past and present members of the college Past Staff Emeritus Professor Bullough had the honorary degree of Litt of the University of Glasgow conferred upon him Dr Ince Assistant Lecturer in French 1953-56 was appointed to the Chair of French at the University of Southampton Professor Oatley Lecturer in Physics 1932-44 was awarded the Faraday Medal by the Council of the Institution of Electrical Engineers for his work on micrcHwave valves he was awarded also one of the Royal Society's three Royal Medals 1969 for his wartime work on the development of radar and more recently for work on the development of the scanning electron microscope
