xiv Annual Report of the Council FINANCE Income and Expenditure Account The income from fees amounted to £14 540 The Grant from the Church Commissioners remained at £18 000 Expenditure on teaching staff rose by £3 170 due to the revision of salary scales which became effective from 1st October 1969 while administrative salaries showed decrease of £1 330 Departmental expenses amounted to £5 495 which was £100 less than last year With income at £38 861 and expenditure at £43 673 the year's work- ing showed deficit of £4 812 compared with surplus of £322 in 1968-69 Corporation General Fund Account Income was received from the usual sources and after meeting ex- penses the account showed surplus of £3 522 which has been trans- ferred to the General Fund Income and Expenditure Account King's College at St Augustine's College Canterbury Total income amounted to £36 723 which included £1 592 received from Special Lettings Expenditure was £37 821 and the overall result from the first year's working resulted in deficit of £1 098 King's College Hostel During 1969-70 vacation lettings brought in £4 341 compared with £2 207 last year 3nd the total income amounted to £19 683 Expenditure was £18 297 and the year's working produced surplus of £1 386 compared with deficit of £1 224 in 1968-69 King's College at St Boniface College Warminster The final close down of Warminster became effective in 1969-70 and necessitated certain payments for salaries and wages together with the College share of redundancy payments and the settlement payment to St Boniface College The deficit for the year amounted to £4 054
