Studentships Scholarships Exhibitions Bursaries and Prizes 185 ARCHIBALD ROBERTSON PRIZE This Prize was founded in 1931 in memory of the Right Rev Archibald Robertson Principal of the College from 1897 to 1903 and after- wards Bishop of Exeter who bequeathed £100 to the Council for the benefit of the Faculty of Theology The Prize consists of books to the value of £5-25 The Prize will be offered annually for the best student at the College examination at the end of the second year of the course WORDSWORTH PRIZE The Council gives Prize to the Faculty of Theology each year in memory of Bishop Wordsworth by whom for some years the Prizes were presented The Prize which is of the value of £315 will be offered annually for the best student in the second year of the course PLUMPTRE PRIZE FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE The friends and former pupils of the Very Rev Edward Hayes Plumptre Dean of Wells formerly Professor of Pastoral Theology at King's College presented to the College the sum of £128 jo for the purpose of founding Prize to bear his name The Prize which is of the value of £15 is open to regular students of the Faculty of Theology in their second and third year course for the final examination No student may obtain this Prize second time The Prize will be awarded for the best essay submitted by the candidates Essays must be sent to the Registrar of the College not later than date to be announced on the faculty notice-board Subject for Session 1971-72 'But primarily am passionately religious man and my novels must be written from the depth of my religious experience Lawrence in letter to Edward Garnett To what extent can the novels of Lawrence be said to be vindication of their author's claim KNOWLING SERMON PRIZE fund was raised in 1907 by his friends and former pupils in honour of the Reverend Richard John Knowling Canon of Durham Professor of
