130 Faculties and Courses of Study in the past There is considerable freedom in the choice of alternative options particularly in the School of Biological Sciences and in the broad-based degrees involving studies in two or more main subjects It may be noted that considerable prominence is given in the Faculty of Science to tutorial teaching Small groups discuss current problems and individual tutorial arrangements are also made so that each student is in direct contact with at least one member of the academic staff Undergraduate Courses SC DEGREE SPECIALISING IN ONE MAIN SUBJECT This may be taken in Mathematics Geography Pharmacology Physics Biochemistry Physiology Chemistry Botany Zoology Geology Cell and Molecular Biology No additional subject is required with Mathematics but other courses require one or more allied subjects in most of which the treatment is geared to the needs of the main subject Details regarding the entry requirements for individual courses are given in the separate brochures issued for each of the main science departments and for the School of Biological Sciences SC DEGREE IN TWO MAIN SUBJECTS While it is intended to give individual students as much freedom as possible in selecting the two or more subjects which they wish to study there are certain difficulties of time-tables accommodation etc which make it impracticable to permit large number of combinations of subjects in the first instance The following pairs of main subjects are normally available and courses in third subject may be taken during the first session Chemistry and Geology Chemistry and Mathematics Chemistry and Physics Mathematics and Physics Geology and Mathematics Geology and Physics Biology and Physics Botany and Zoology Geography and Geology Geography and Mathematics Geography and Physics
