Annual Report of the Delegacy lxv FACULTY OF MEDICAL SCIENCE Examination Results 2nd 121 Anatomy Physiology 2nd 45 DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY Number of Students 2nd 255 2nd 74 Departmental Notes Most of the changes initiated by Professor Sir Francis Knowles soon after his arrival were nearly completed during the session These include the following The teaching of micro-anatomy was reorientated with greater emphasis on cell-biology The improvement of the facilities for histochemistry and other methods for the investi- gation of cells in the Anatomy Department made it possible to include more functional histology in the curriculum The Anatomy Museum was reconstructed to provide full descriptive display of the human body by means of dissections accompanied by annotated drawings This work was carried out by Mrs Trussler an artist under the direction of Professor Μ McMinn The Electron Microscope Unit at the Zoo operated at full capacity and made major contributions to the research work of Professor McMinn and the research group working on neuroendo- crinology under the direction of Professor Sir Francis Knowles The studies on the brain by Sir Francis and his collaborators formed the basis for an exchange of information with various European insti- tutions In January Sir Francis was invited to lecture at the University of Wurzburg Germany and in June Professor Schiebler head of the Anatomy department at Wurzburg visited King's to lecture and to discuss with Sir Francis ways of integrating research work on the brain
