Annual Report of the Delegacy Defence Studies involved not only the academic development of the programme of work in this field as manifested for example in the new LL optional subjects but also the following outside activities participation in the Ministry of Defence and Southampton University Conference on Maritime Strategy periods spent at sea with various Royal Naval units notably Bulwark Eagle and Bilderston visits to maritime Headquarters at Northwood and Pitreavie and study visits to Sea Eagle Londonderry the anti- submarine school and Lochinvar Port Edgar for the study of mine countermeasures He also visited the Royal Naval Submarine Depots Dolphin and Neptune the Royal Naval Air Stations at Culross and Lossiemouth the Royal Naval Dockyard at Rosyth and the establishment at Bally Kelly Mr Kinley helped in bringing inter-governmental talks on the con- stitutional relationship between the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man to an interim conclusion and continued to assist the Isle of Man Government in preparing evidence for Royal Commission on the Constitution Mr Wellwood was appointed to sit as Deputy County Court Judge and officiated in many courts throughout the Greater London area and beyond As College representative Mr Hughes Sub-Dean attended the Conference of Admissions Officers at York University He also lectured to trade-union officers on the legal implications of the Donovan Report for the Department of Extra-Mural Studies at Bristol University Dr Boyle lectured in the course for French and German lawyers under the auspices of the British Council Mr Freeman gave course of lectures on aspects of criminology to the Probation and After-Care Training Centre of the Home Office He attended the Third National Conference on Research and Teaching in Criminology in Cambridge the Conference of London Magistrates on Vandalism and Public Order Offences and two conferences of the Institute for the Study and Treatment of Delinquency Mr William Birtles attended the Annual Seminar on Recent Develop- ments in American Law organised by the European United States Legal Centre at Naples He gave lectures on English Criminal Law to group of law teachers and students from the Argentine
