liv Annual Report of the Delegacy FACULTY OF ENGINEERING Number of Students Sc Eng Part יי q' 88 Part II 66 Part III 45 Postgraduate Sc 32 Phil 22 Ph 14 Faculty Notes On May 29th 1969 the Technological Sub-Committee of the visited the College engaging in discussions with senior members of academic staff of the three engineering departments at morning and afternoon meetings The Sub-Committee also visited most of the Faculty accommodation including all the laboratories and research rooms Department of Civil Engineering Members of the department in addition to their academic duties continued to play an active part in their profession outside the University Professor Ross acted as Chairman at an international conference on 'The use of models for pressure vessels of nuclear power stations' He served on the Training Consultative Committee for the Cement and Concrete Industry and is Chairman of the Materials Research Committee of the Cement and Concrete Association He again visited University College Nairobi as External Examiner in Civil Engineering Professor Κ Nash examined at Lagos and Sierra Leone He completed five years of service as Member of Council of the Insti- tution of Civil Engineers During this period he played an influential part in the policy-making of the Institution and gave much valuable service on several of its Committees notably the Education and Training Committee In September 1968 he presented paper at conference on Education and Training at the Institution and lectured in the Hague to the Dutch Institution of Civil Engineers on the Aberfan disaster Professor Gibson lectured at the Universities of Cambridge and Manchester on recent advances in the theory of consolidation He served as Chairman of the British Geotechnical Society He led the
