lii Annual Report of the Delegacy FACULTY OF EDUCATION Numbers of Students Postgraduate Certificate in Education 119 Academic Diploma in Education 12 by Examination Phil and by Thesis 20 Ph Occasional Faculty Notes During the session the Faculty of Education implemented in two ways the policy of student-participation joint-committee of six was elected three members of staff by staff meeting three students by the Education Society to suggest items of common concern for staff meeting agenda and five elected students attended staff meetings This procedure worked well and is to be continued Professor Beales gave the Quarter-Centenary Lecture at Ushaw College Durham He lectured also to the Boston and the Bromley Branches of the Historical Association and at Christ Church College Canterbury and Philippa Fawcett College He served as external examiner for the Universities of Exeter and Leeds and for Jordanhill College He was actively involved in the negotiations by which Heythrop College on its removal to London from Oxford became part of London University Professor Hirst lectured to the Education Departments of Ox- ford Durham and Liverpool Universities the Cambridge Institute of Education and at Christ's College Canterbury Goldsmiths' College Maria Grey College Keswick Hall College Norwich and Ripon College of Education He was external examiner for the Universities of Leicester and Manchester and took part in the programme on curriculum development Dr King lectured at the University of Bristol and at Garnett Froebel Institute King Alfred's and Christ Church Colleges of Edu- cation He was external examiner for the University of Glasgow and University College Swansea He took part in research projects on examinations and on the 'new Humanities' of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg He led the Comparative Education tour to Italy at Easter 1969
