xlviii Annual Report of the Delegacy Departmental Notes Professor Martin read paper on 'The balance of strategic nuclear weapons and the relationships between East and West' at conference to mark the centenary of the Royal Netherlands Army Staff College at the Hague in November 1968 and delivered paper on 'The Soviet-American military balance in the Middle East' to the Academy of Political Science Columbia University New York He lectured to the NATO Defence College in Rome the United States Naval War College in Newport Rhode Island the Canadian National Defence College Kingston Ontario and to the Imperial Defence College the Royal Air Force College Cranwell the Royal Naval College Greenwich and the Staff College Camberley He atten- ded seminar on the future of the Atlantic Community organised jointly by the International Press Institute of Geneva and the Atlantic Institute of Paris in Brussels in March 1969 He also attended con- ferences at the Forschungsinstitut der Deutschen Gesellschaft fur Auswartige Politik Cologne and the Centre d'Etudes de Politique Etrangere Paris Dr Mendl lectured to the Senior Naval War Course at Rhodes House Oxford the Junior Officers' Course at Rewley House Oxford the Royal Naval Staff Course Greenwich and the Royal Institute of International Affairs Chatham House He read paper to seminar on the Far East at St Anthony's College Oxford on 'Japan and her strategic problems' and to seminar at the University of Reading on 'The role of the Armed Forces in Contemporary France' He was commissioned to work on study British and European Interests in the Middle East during the Next Decade for the Royal Institute of International Affairs In connection with this he organised conference on the subject at Ditchley Park and paid visit to the United Arab Republic Iran Lebanon Israel and the Federal Republic of Germany April 27th to May 16th Mr Bond lectured to the Windsor and Eton branch of the Historical Association on 'The education and training of British Gen- erals 1854-1914' in January He was appointed moderator in History to the Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth in April
