Annual Report of the Delegacy xlvii DEPARTMENT OF SPANISH Number of Students King's College Other Colleges Subsidiary 14 Honours 48 17 Combined Studies History Postgraduate 23 Departmental Notes Professor Jones was invited to take part in symposium on Juan del Enzina and the Spanish Renaissance at the University of Texas He spent term January-April at the University of Pittsburgh as Visiting Andrew Mellon Professor He was invited to give public lectures on Spanish literature of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries at the Universities of Pittsburgh California La Jolla Los Angeles and Berkeley and Georgia at the Johns Hopkins University Brown University Rochester University and Dartmouth College Mr Nadal broadcast talk on the Third Programme on an unpublished prose poem by Garcia Lorca called 'Sun and Shadow' Professor Jean Franco gave the department invaluable help during the difficult interregnum between her appointment at Essex and the arrival of her successor in October 1969 by doing some part-time under- graduate and postgraduate teaching here We were also helped very successfully by Mrs Donnelly Professor Franco visited Cuba to serve on the international jury for the annual literary competitions organised by the Casa de las Ameri- cas where she also gave lecture She lectured also at Besan90n University the University of Liverpool the Joint Council of Language Associations and the University of Newcastle upon Tyne Mr Sage gave lectures at the Association of Hispanists' Con- ference in Exeter the University of London Course for Teachers of Spanish at Canning House and to the Edinburgh University Spanish Society DEPARTMENT OF WAR STUDIES Number of Students Diploma Phil 10 PkD Î’
