xlii Annual Report of the Delegacy College English students will gratefully recall his firm dedication to their instruction in Anglo-Saxon Professor Kane acted as external examiner in the Universities of Exeter and Liverpool He delivered two lectures in the intercollegiate course on Old and Middle English shorter poems Professor Sharrock lectured on symbolism and poetry at Black- friars Oxford and at St Boniface College Warminster He also gave lectures on modern novelists to the Society for Research in English and on Wordsworth to the University College English Society He was appointed Trustee of Dove Cottage Mr Hill gave an intercollegiate lecture on 'John Webster and the Tradition' Mr Waldron lectured on 'The Moral Odes of the Vernon MS' in the intercollegiate series on Old and Middle English shorter poems Mr Ε Mottram lectured at the University of Kent at Canter- bury on 'The wasted sacrifice in twentieth century American fiction' and at the London School of Economics on 'Protest and ideology in American literature since the thirties' He spoke to the sixth form society at Holland Park Comprehensive School on 'Protest among American students in 1968' to the King's College Socialist Society on 'Towards definition of socialism' and he lectured at Cumberland Lodge and at the Arts Laboratory on 'Time and space structures' He broadcast talk on Norman Mailer on the Third Programme and addressed the colloquium on 'The armed society' at the Institute of United States Studies on 'Norman Mailer and the American war novel' He read paper to the Poetry Society conference at Magdalen College Oxford on 'Poetry now' and was elected to the Executive Committee of the Poetry Society Mrs Leonee Ormond lectured to the Victorian Society on 'The literary imagination literary sources in Victorian narrative painting' in series called 'Focus on Victorian painting' Mr Proudfoot gave an intercollegiate lecture on 'Tourneur and revenge tragedy' and four lectures on 'Some problems of the Shakespeare canon' in the International Summer School at Stratford- upon-Avon Mr Porter read paper to the Viking Society for Northern Research on 'Arons Saga' and gave an intercollegiate lecture on 'The lyric mode in Anglo-Saxon poetry' In April Mr Hill Mr Proudfoot and Mrs Rees attended conference of university teachers of English at the University of Kent
