XXXV111 Annual Report of the Delegacy The total expenditure for the year has been £2 237 569 and the total income was £2 253 206 showing surplus of £15 637 Of the men's halls of residence Halliday Hall was again full through- out the year The year's working showed surplus of £101 compared with deficit of £896 last year which is due to record year of income from Special Lettings King's College Hall shows deficit on the year's working of £1 348 This is due in part to the raising of the allocation for Repairs and Deco- rations from £5 000 last year to £10 000 in the present year to provide for anticipated renewals During the year 1968 69 Capital Grants totalling £272 952 were made available to the College by the University Grants Committee through the Court of the University Of this £192 339 was for con- structional work £66 423 for furniture and equipment and £14 190 for the acquisition of properties in connection with the College rebuild- ing scheme benefactions and grants for research In addition to grants mentioned in departmental sections of this report the Delegacy gratefully acknowledge benefactions and grants in aid of research as indicated from the following sources Agricultural Research Council Botany department renewal of grant in aid of research by Miss D'Apollonia and an amended grant for the appointment of Miss Howard instead of Mrs Ross at £2 787 starting December 1st 1968 Esmee Fairbaim Charitable Trust Geology department £3 000 towards research programme of Dr Α Ε Hubbard The Goldsmiths' Company £1 000 towards the conversion of 152 Strand for the Faculty of Music Greater London Council Scientific Branch Zoology department £500 and college fees for post-graduate student Mechanical Engineering Department £475 for purchase of oscilloscope and Turnall Newall Physics department £1 240 to award Research Fellowship to Mr Potts Sc for two years Leverhulme Trust Fund Electrical Engineering department post- doctoral award and maintenance grant to Mr Dado £1 000 Music Faculty to continue grant of £2 000 to Mr Lockspeiser for fourth and final year
