Studentships Scholarships Exhibitions Bursaries and Prizes 203 CARTER MEDAL AND PRIZE FOR BOTANY This Prize was founded in 1879 under the will of George Redsull Carter The Prize consists of medal and books to the joint value of about £15 The Prize is open to all full-time students in all faculties of the College who have attended for at least two years at the College The Prize will be awarded annually to the student who in the opinion of the Principal and the Professor of Botany shall have most distinguished himself in written and practical work in Botany during the year Prizes in Natural Science open to students in the Faculties of Arts and Natural Science TENNANT EXHIBITION AND MEDAL IN GEOLOGY The Exhibition and Medal were founded in 1881 under the will of James Tennant Professor of Mineralogy from 1853-69 An Exhibition of £25 will be offered annually to students in the Department of Geology in King's College The Exhibition will be awarded to the student reading for either the Honours degree or the Sc degree who obtains the best results based on the work done during the first or second year of study at the College Decision as to the appropriate year of study to be considered in any session shall be at the discretion of the Department The Medal is open to all full-time students who have studied for at least three years in the Department of Geology The Medal will be awarded annually to the student who in the opinion of the Principal and the Professor of Geology shall have most distinguished himself in the final year of study in the Department of Geology Prizes in Natural Science open to students in specified subjects JOHN MILLAR THOMSON MEDAL FOR CHEMISTRY This Medal was founded in 1930 by Professor Smiles and Professor Allmand to commemorate the services rendered to the College and to chemical education by Professor John Millar Thomson ll who
