Library Facilities 161 The main subject catalogue contains entries arranged according to the scheme of classification used in the Library for all books and periodicals in the working collections in all subjects This catalogue is not yet fully ready for use and readers experiencing difficulty in consulting it should apply to the Library staff The shelf-mark or book number is given on each entry in the catalogues prefixed by the name of the library or special collection in which it is shelved Application should be made to the Library staff for books in special collection or in part of the Library to which the reader does not have access Subject Libraries Arts The General Library contains books on English literature since Shakespeare and American literature books on Spanish literature of the 19th and 20th centuries the main History library the Philosophy and Psychology library collection of books on Classics intended for students reading the subject at subsidiary level and small collections of books on Comparative Philology Fine Arts Italian and Palaeo- graphy The remaining Arts libraries are housed in the corresponding departments The French and German libraries are open from 10 until on weekdays in term The main Classics library the History departmental library containing mostly source material the Imperial History library the Skeat and Furnivall library containing books on English literature up to and including Shakespeare and also on English language the main Spanish library and the War Studies library are accessible only to keyholders usually limited to post- graduate and honours students in those subjects The Geography library is open from 10 until on weekdays in term but borrowing facilities are restricted Access to the Burrows library of Modern Greek and to the Portuguese library is on application in the department or to the Library staff in the General Library Education The Education library is housed in the faculty area and accessible only to keyholders Keys to these subject libraries are issued to those students entitled to use them against deposit of 2s 6d which is returnable when the key is surrendered
