Faculties and Courses of Study 145 SUBSIDIARY MUSIC COURSE This two-year course with an examination at the end of the second year is open to members of other faculties who are required to take short subsidiary course The examinations will assess candidate's general knowledge of music rather than detailed consideration of any particular aspect of it While the Faculty hopes to be able to accommodate all intending subsidiary candidates it is obliged to point out that conflicts within time-tables may arise CONDITIONS OF ENTRY In order to be qualified for course of study in the Faculty of Music at King's College an applicant must have satisfied the general requirements of the University for the procedure to be followed see General Infor- mation page 75 by means of subjects selected from the approved list of subjects drawn up by the University and set out in the Regulations Relating to University Entrance Requirements Although the Faculty at King's College does not ask for additional course requirements candidates for the Mus course are advised that knowledge of Music to 'A' level and of modern language and history to Ό' level will be an advantage At interview all applicants will receive short ear-test the Faculty places considerable weight on the results of this test Mus students will profit from the Faculty's courses if they are able to play keyboard instrument to sing at sight and to know their way around on melody instrument Applicants for the two-year Music Subsidiary course will not necessarily be expected to have obtained Music at Ό' or 'A' level in the General Certificate of Education each application will be considered on its merits All candidates will be interviewed by the Dean of the Faculty they will be expected to show lively interest in music coupled with basic working knowledge of it There are no course requirements for the combined studies degree in Theology and Music Candidates should have working knowledge of music and knowledge of Latin or Greek at least to 'O' level would be an advantage Postgraduate Courses MUS The course of study for this degree in the branches of Musicology Musical Analysis Composition and Folk Music will extend over at
