Annual Report of the Delegacy xci The new Sc degree based on the system of course units makes particularly heavy demands on space This could be restrictive in the variety of courses which the department could and should offer unless more space is forthcoming in the not too distant future FACULTY OF MEDICAL SCIENCE Examination Results 2nd 112 Anatomy and Physiology Anatomy 2nd 37 department of anatomy Number of Students 254 62 Total 324 Departmental Notes Professor Sir Francis Knowles succeeded Professor Nicol at the begin- ning of the session This change of administration resulted in some changes in the teaching and research work of the department As result of the generosity of the Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Foundation funds were made available for the purchase of an electron microscope and ancillary equipment which has been housed in laboratories at Regent's Park provided by Sir Solly Zuckerman and the Council of the Zoological Society of London Alterations to some of the laboratories in the department have been effected and new equipment for research work installed The session was time of transition preparing for reorientation of some of the research work in the department towards Sir Francis's own research on neuro-endocrinology and towards recasting of some of the teaching of micro-anatomy
