Annual Report of the Delegacy lxix on the effects of air pollution on plants and animals at Wageningen and to address the biennial conference of the Society for the Promotion of Nature Reserves He continued to serve on number of committees and councils concerned with conservation and resources and was called upon as an expert witness in investigations into levels of pollution in south-east England Dr Brunsden was invited to give lectures in the universities of Durham Exeter and Keele Having acted for several years as Honorary Assistant Organiser of the annual conference of the Geographical Association he was invited to become Honorary Org- aniser for the 1968 meeting He was elected to the Committee of the British Geomorphological Research Group He gave lecture and demonstration of instrumental techniques at one of the Group's resi- dential meetings Dr Morley spent the year at McMaster Univer- sity on leave-of-absence Mr Κ Rosing was invited to address the conference on Computer Graphics and the Automated Cartography section of the Institute of British Geographers also serving as member of the Institute's working party on computer graphics Dr Morgan was member of the Royal Geographical Society's expedition to Turkana Most members of staff addressed branch meetings of the Geographical Association or assisted with field parties of the Associa- tion Miss Coleman organised and conducted field class in East Africa for the Isle of Thanet branch Professor Pugh Mr Lawrence and Mr Rosing investigated the org- anisation of the Swedish Land Data Bank and had discussions with number of official organisations in this country with view to estab- lishing an automated pilot project The Ministry of Housing and Local Government awarded grant towards Miss Coleman's land-use research and the Natural Environment Research Council continued to support Dr Brunsden's mass-movement research project in Dorset Dr Brunsden has developed some inclinometer recording devices and some strain-gauge equipment in connection with this project which has already yielded valuable preliminary results not helped by conditions of exceptionally heavy rainfall during the year which accentuated rates of mass movement so strikingly that some of the equipment was swept away The East Africa Rainfall Project made progress with the establishment of the gauge networks across Kampala and Nairobi and the first charts have been received for processing Some difficulty has been experienced in relation to the security of the gauges many of which are in relatively exposed positions the copper content of the gauges has proved particularly attractive locally and steps are
