xlvi Annual Report of the Delegacy Departmental Notes Professor Maguinness attended the Jubilee celebrations in honour of Professor Kumaniecki in Warsaw in November 1967 and delivered Latin address He also lectured in French for the Polish Academy of Sciences and in English for the British Council Institute in Warsaw In April he attended as the representative of the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic the International Committee at the Istituto di Studi Romani in Rome convened to arrange the 1970 International Congress Professor Winnington-Ingram lectured at Glasgow on 'Music in ancient Greek life' and at Oxford on 'Ajax or the pathology of heroism' During the summer 1968 he spent term as Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Classics of the University of Canterbury New Zealand where he delivered public lecture on 'Revenge justice and tragedy' He also gave public lectures at the University of Auckland the Victoria University of Wellington and the University of Otago In Australia he lecturered at the Universities of Western Australia Adelaide and Melbourne at Monash University at the Australian National University and to the Musicological Society of Australia at Sydney Dr Gossage lectured to the Latin Department of the University of Birmingham and the Southampton University Classical Society on 'Felix Praedo' and to the Reading Branch of the Classical Association on 'The upper classes in Roman Greece' Dr Hainsworth gave eight intercollegiate lectures on 'Homer and oral poetry' Mr Courtney gave eight intercollegiate lectures on 'Elementary principles of textual criticism' Mrs Averil Cameron lectured to the Department of Classics University of Yale on 'The secret history of Procopius' Miss Anna Dionisotti give four intercollegiate lectures on 'Roman Elegy' Mr Handford and Mr Î’ Caven acted as visiting lecturers throughout the session All the permitted new courses for Joint Degrees arc being introduced with the exception of Latin and French After friendly and construe- tivc discussion with the students changes have been introduced in the teaching programme in line with current needs and in preparation for anticipated changes in the University syllabus
