Studentships Scholarships Exhibitions Bursaries and Prizes 197 The Prize consists of medal and books to the joint value of about £15 The Prize is open to all full-time students in all faculties of the College who have attended for at least two years at the College The Prize will be awarded annually to the student who in the opinion of the Principal and the Professor of Botany shall have most distinguished himself in written and practical work in Botany during the year Prizes in Natural Science open to students in the Faculties of Arts Natural Science and Engineering TENNANT MEDALS AND PRIZES These Prizes were founded in 1881 under the will of James Tennant Professor of Mineralogy from 1853 to 1869 Each Prize consists of books or instruments to the value of fjj 10s together with medal One Prize is open to all full-time students in the Faculties of Arts and Natural Science attending the first-year course second Prize is open to all regular students in the Faculties of Arts and Natural Science attending the more advanced courses and third Prize is open to all regular students in the Faculty of Engineering The Prizes will be awarded annually on the result of the year's work in the respective courses in the Department of Geology Prizes in Natural Science open to students in specified subjects JOHN MILLAR THOMSON MEDAL FOR CHEMISTRY This Medal was founded in 1930 by Professor Smiles and Professor Allmand to commemorate the services rendered to the College and to chemical education by Professor John Millar Thomson ll who became member of the staff of the Department of Chemistry in 1871 and who retired in 1914 after having served for twenty-seven years as Daniell Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry The Medal is open to all full-time students who have studied for at least three years in the Department of Chemistry The Medal will be awarded annually to the student who in the opinion of the Principal and the Professors of Chemistry shall have most distinguished himself in the final year of the Honours course in the Department of Chemistry
