Faculties and Courses of Study 139 CONDITIONS OF ENTRY In order to be qualified for course of study in the Faculty of Music at King's College an applicant must have satisfied the general requirements of the University for the procedure to be followed see General Infor- mation page 71 by means of subjects selected from the approved list of subjects drawn up by the University and set out in the Regulations Relating to University Entrance Requirements Applicants for the Mus course at King's College must in addition have passed modern foreign language or Latin at Ordinary level in the General Certificate of Education examinations At interview all applicants will receive short ear-test the Faculty places considerable weight on the results of this test Mus students will profit best from the Faculty's courses if they are able to play keyboard instrument to sing at sight and to know their way around on melody instrument Applicants for the two-year Music Subsidiary course will not necessarily be expected to have obtained Music at 'O' or 'A' level in the General Certificate of Education each application will be considered on its merits All candidates will be interviewed by the Dean of the Faculty they will be expected to show lively interest in music coupled with basic working knowledge of it Postgraduate Courses mus musicology The course of study for this degree will extend over at least one aca- demic year and candidates will normally be expected to hold first- class or second-class Mus degree of this University or an equivalent qualification from another University The course of instruction will normally be open only to Internal students The examination for the degree will be held once year and will comprise two written papers History of Notation Musical Palaeography Problems of Aesthetics Criticism and Interpretation Special Study and viva voce examination mus composition mus musical analysis Courses of study for these degrees will be offered for the first time in October 1969 Each course will extend over at least one academic year would-be candidates should consult the Dean of the Faculty of Music before making an application
