Faculties and Courses of Study 125 sc degree courses specialising in one subject For entry to the following specialist courses candidates will normally be required to have passed at Advanced Level in General Certificate of Education examination or an examination of equivalent standard in the subjects indicated below Mathematics Pure Mathematics Applied Mathematics and another science subject preferably Physics Candidates selected for interview will be given an oral test Physics Physics and in one of Pure Mathematics Mathematics Pure and Applied Mathematics for Science or one of the examinations in Modern Mathematics It is desirable to have pass in Chemistry to at least Ordinary level Chemistry Chemistry Physics and in one or other of Pure Mathe- matics Mathematics Pure and Applied Mathematics for Science or one of the examinations in Modern Mathematics Those having Pure Mathematics only are advised that some knowledge of Applied Mathematics in particular of Dynamics is necessary to extract full benefit from the courses provided Geology Any two science subjects or preferably three included in the list for entry to the broad-based degree of Sc Geography Geography and any one or preferably two other science subject included in the list for entry to the broad-based degree of Sc Botany Chemistry and either Botany or Biology Preference will be given to candidates who also have one of Mathematics Physics or Zoology Zoology Candidates are advised to offer Physics Chemistry and either Zoology or Biology they may also be required to take an entrance test Biochemistry Cell Biology Pharmacology Physiology Chem- istry and two others chosen from Biology or Zoology or Botany Physics and mathematical subject broad-based sc degree courses Candidates will be required to have passed in two science subjects and preferably in three subjects at Advanced level chosen from the following list Pure Mathematics Geography Geology Applied Mathematics Physics Botany Mathematics Pure and Applied Physical Science Zoology Mathematics Chemistry Biology
